Note

I started formulating perfumes in 2022. I never believed I was creative until grief made me a storyteller. When my dad died, I felt a need to preserve our family’s story.

Words didn’t do it for me so I chose to put legacy into bottles. It’s unconventional. Tangible. Memorable. Shareable. Much louder than words.

In dad’s Luba culture, history has guardians. Stories should never die. Now, I have a vision to see a world where perfume is a cultural artefact. People come and go. But the stories we leave behind can last for generations.

So I’m inviting you to create cultural artefacts with me. Somewhere along the way, perfume became commercial, superficial, and disconnected from its roots. We forgot that scent is a both a witness and a language. Netta is reclaiming that.

Love, Azama Kakota.

Name meaning

Kotinetta was born from a nickname my parents gave me. It was an attempt to ‘italianify’ our last name, a nod to a country that held a special place in their hearts. Rome was where they raised their first child and where pieces of their souls remained.
